gallery front desk

Private commission to design and fabricate a piece of furniture functioning both as a front desk and a landing step for a sur-elevated corridor for Art & Architecture gallery in Paris. Design process started with two planar curves generating proto-structural envelope to be optimized with voxel-based structural analysis. As a second step- the surface rationalization of varied morphostructural grids were applied, analysed and optimized with finite element method in order to provide better understanding of structural conditions (cantilevering, anchorage, u-shape beam, 3d truss elements).

Digital fabrication phase involved robotic rod bending of 800 unique elements of varied 3 dimensional bends.

Project of the front desk was awarded 3rd prize in the furniture EVOLO competition 2016.
